The College of Humanitieshas a long history and profound academic accumulation and is deeply rooted in Chinese Department, founded in 1921, and the Research Institute of Sinology, Amoy University, established in 1926. Famous scholars once taught here like Lu Xun, Lin Yutang, and some others.
The College of Humanities consists of 4 departments which are Department of Chinese, History, Philosophy, Anthropology and Ethnology.Besides ,there are 9 research institutes and fifteen research centers in it. The college also has jurisdiction over Anthropological Museum and Lu Xun Memorial Hall of Xiamen University.As to publications, some important academic journals are published by the School, such as Study of China's Social and Economic History, Taoism Research, and so on.
The College offers7 undergraduate programs which are Chinese Language and literature,Linguistics,Drama,Film and Art，,History,Archaeology,Philosophy,Anthropology and Ethnology.
The College owns one National Key Discipline, 5 Post-doctoral Research Stations, oneNational Liberal Arts-based Talent-training & Scientific Disciplines Research Base,2National Characteristic Major and one National-level Teaching Team, 11 Key Disciplines of Fujian Province and 3 Characteristic Professions of Fujian Province.
The College has9 Level-1 AcademicDisciplines,including 7 Level-1Discipline Doctoral Programs which are Chinese language and literature,Drama,film and television,Art,Philosophy,Archeaology and museology,History of China and History of world.There are10 disciplines which are authorized to offer doctoral degrees and 10 disciplines to offer master degrees.
The College puts great importance to teachers, and has 151 full-time instructors, including 2 members on the State Council Academic Degree Appraisal Committee,2State-level Experts with Outstanding Contributions, one distinguished professor who is Changjiang Scholar, 3 Minjiang Scholars, 8 Specially-appointed Professors by Xiamen University, 2 candidate-selects of Cross-century Talent-training Project in Humanities and Social Sciences Fields organized by the Ministry of Education, 10 candidate-selects of New Century Excellent Talents Program organized by the Ministry of Education. Faculties with senior professional titles account for 73% of all full-time teachers, while those with doctorates are 91%. Recently, the College has made great efforts to recruits scholars who receives doctorate from world top universities to internationalize our faculty. In addition,4 faculty members win awards in the young teacher teaching skills competition of Xiamen University.
Around 200 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students are admitted each year by the College of Humanities (60 for PhD degrees and 140 for Master degrees). Now the College has 1469 students, among which 863 are undergraduates, 421 are master candidates, and 185 are doctor candidates.Since 2013, undergraduates have been categorized and trained by academic subjects. The College aims to enhance their ability of Liberal Arts and transdisciplinary study, encourage them to pay more attention to academic frontier and social reality, develop theirgeneral knowledge and innovation capacity.
