A Study on the Lexicalstatistic classification and the measurement of the time depth of the Zhuang-Dong languages
By Deng Xiaohua and William, S.-Y.Wang
This study adopts the etymological statistics, which is one of the most important approaches to language classification ,and the distance and the characteristic methods commonly used in the molecular anthropology, to provide a numerical classification and the description of the genetic relationship among the Zhuang-Dong languages, and to calculate the time depth of their divergence. The results of this study correct some errors in existed studies, and propose more scientific approaches and conclusions on controversy caused by traditional classification.
The significance of this study lies in building the mathematical models of classification of the Zhuang-Dong languages and dialects, and developing the comparative studies on the genetic distance of the constructed phylo-genetic trees based on the genetic information of languages and biology, and the distance of geographic distribution. So it is an innovative study to combine the computational linguistics with genetics to process language data in China.
