Research Area

Professor Yu’s research focus on Overseas Chinese and Qiaoxiang in Southern China, especially on Overseas Chinese farm, the ethnic identity and relationship of the Chinese in Southeast Asia. Professor Yu hosted several key projects including Social Changes in Fujian Qiaoxiang since Reform and Opening-up (Key Project for Studies of Social Science of Fujian Province during the Tenth Five-Year Plan), Relations between ethnic Chinese and Local Ethnic Groups in Southeast Asia and the New Generation of ethnic Chinese: Studying in Taiwan and Mainland China (Project of Ministry of Education).
